 SHANNON’S CORNER

Summertime!

There was a child who was anticipating about going to summer camp because an older brother had gone and shared about the fun he experienced at camp. It seemed like it was taking f-o-r-e-v-e-r to the child because a camper had to be nine years old to be a camper. But finally, the long wait was coming to an end because the child turned nine before camp started. The suitcase was packed and ready to go two months prior to the week of camp because of the excitement and anticipation of being at camp and getting to experience all the things the older brother had talked about.

If you didn’t guess already that child was me and now 39 years later, I am back at Seneca Hills as one of the guest staff facilitating one of the bible study classes. Many things have changed but the mission of Seneca, “That I may know him.” Phil 3:10a has not.

One of the concepts the campers have been learning is the “Already but not yet” during chapel. Each chapel session and during our bible class the campers are getting to see glimpses of this concept in God’s Word of Jesus fulfilling many of the Old Testament prophecies and the law, but the not yet until Jesus returns.

It was so good to spend a weekend in Rimersburg with my Care Team as we fellowshipped, played, prayed, and visited with people.  Having the opportunity to share with Faith Fellowship Church about the work that God is doing in caring for His people and how we all have participated as the body of Christ in that work.  The Spur to Victory event at the fairgrounds was amazing and gave me a deeper understanding of what discipleship means as followers of Jesus Christ.  It was also fabulous to meet Pastor Andrew, Sarah, Caleb, and Joshua.

We did a transitional stress training with the staff at City Relief Mission.  Helped facilitate a critical stress debrief with some staff from The Bowery Mission.  Interaction International had their first of three summer TCK Connects so that the students can have some touch points throughout their summer.  Some of the students are in transition as some have moved – whether back to their passport country or to their host country this past month or two. Some of the students have graduated from high school and have been saying their goodbyes to move back to the USA for college.  It was great to connect with the students to see where they are and to have fun by playing, Never Have I Ever.

A beautiful ripple of impact for the Kingdom of God.  I was commissioned to go to Peru to serve at a children’s home.  Three of the kids/teens who grew up in the children’s home and I got to know them, love them, and disciple them are now serving the Lord in full-time ministry.  They are sharing the Good News to kids and their families all over Peru plus training and discipling others to do the same.  These three families who serve with BCM Peru are living for Jesus and are in the throes of doing ministry.

Marlon, Luz, Marcos, and Matias, have a new addition to their family with the birth of their third son, Marcello who has had some health issues with his blood levels since birth.  They help teach at the BCM Bible Institute and help with the Bible Clubs.

Jonathan, Estefanny, and Noah are directors of camp ministry and are holding a two-week teen camp in Iquitos soon and doing Bible Clubs.

Ricardo, Karina, and Job are teaching at the BCM Bible Institute and helping with Bible Clubs.

If you would like to continue the ripple impact, learn more about their ministry, how you can become involved, and how you can help support them Marlon & Luz GonzalesJonathan & Estefanny, and Ricardo & Karina.  Please be praying for them individually, their marriages, their kids, and the work they are doing in partnership with the Lord there in Peru.

Camp ministry is very dear to my heart as it creates an atmosphere that invites us away from our daily rhythms of life, where we can slow down, pause, and hear the voice of our Good Shepherd. Right around the corner is Cherry Run Camp – July 27th-August 4th.  It is a great place to come get away from the distractions of daily living to refuel and restore your soul.  There is something for the whole family no matter how young or old you are.  I invite you to come and sit at the feet of Jesus for him to minister and tend your body, mind, and spirit.

“That I may know him.” Philippians 3:10a

SHANNON’S CORNER The Saga Continues… The trip to Malaysia consisted of a two-day spiritual retreat with the theme of ‘Come Away With Me’ and a six-day conference with about 230 missionaries who serve in some aspect of translating the Scriptures. One of the many people who I met was a missionary who served in Cameroon for many years and now is in a new role. As he was sharing, most his words were very negative and depressive. I encouraged him to sign up for a time of prayer and care. At the end of the retreat, this missionary shared with me that he did have a session and I could see that his whole countenance changed, and he was hopeful. His new word he used to describe where he was now is ‘delightful.’ Our time there was creating a safe space for these missionaries to have a place to share what they are struggling with and to connect with Jesus. One missionary is at a crossroads in her life. Another finds himself in the midst of betrayal. A missionary is in a new role as a caregi...

SHANNON’S CORNER Camp News! Cherry Run Camp is my green pasture and quiet waters where the Lord continuously restores my soul.  This camp was even more special as I was invited to be the missionary in residence for the nine days of camp. Sharing with all age groups about missions and how as believers and followers of Christ we are all called to go and make disciples by sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. It was a week that was fulfilling to be with my family and the family of God as we fellowshipped one with another. As missionaries, we first need to make connections and build relationships with people before sharing the Good News. The youth were given the mission to level up: 1) make connection by introducing themselves to people and making them feel welcomed; 2) ask the person what they need prayer for; 3) the youth to pray with the person on the spot; 4) the youth to share their testimony; and 5) the person is asked to share their testimony.  The yo...

SHANNON’S CORNER I will be joining my team with Refresh & Resound International as we will be in Penang, Malaysia.  Some of the team will be doing worship and the rest of us will be providing care and prayer for the spiritual leaders’ retreat and conference for around 220 global workers who work in translating the Scriptures in SE Asia.  Please be in prayer for my team as well as for everyone at these events.  I will share with you more next month so stay tuned. I have so enjoyed the slower pace this month and the opportunity to finish all of my nursing continuing education classes as well as some life coaching continuing education.  The slower pace has also given me time to be able to pause and reflect on this past summer and check-in with myself.  There have been some things that surfaced to the top of some transition losses that I needed to acknowledge, process, and grieve them.  God gently reminding me that I am still in the season of re-entr...
