 SHANNON’S CORNER

The Saga Continues…

The trip to Malaysia consisted of a two-day spiritual retreat with the theme of ‘Come Away With Me’ and a six-day conference with about 230 missionaries who serve in some aspect of translating the Scriptures. One of the many people who I met was a missionary who served in Cameroon for many years and now is in a new role. As he was sharing, most his words were very negative and depressive. I encouraged him to sign up for a time of prayer and care. At the end of the retreat, this missionary shared with me that he did have a session and I could see that his whole countenance changed, and he was hopeful. His new word he used to describe where he was now is ‘delightful.’

Our time there was creating a safe space for these missionaries to have a place to share what they are struggling with and to connect with Jesus. One missionary is at a crossroads in her life. Another finds himself in the midst of betrayal. A missionary is in a new role as a caregiver for his family and from a distance that weighs heavily on him. Another missionary is walking through major church hurt. A missionary shared she is continuing the work of healing from her childhood trauma. Another is experiencing high stress and pressure from work. One missionary is recently mourning the death of her mother. Another missionary is in many transitions at the same time – job roles, empty nesters, new grandma, aging parents, and changes in her organization. One missionary shared her team dynamics are changing greatly. Having a front row seat in seeing how Jesus connected with each one and the mission they are on together was marvelous and precious. It grew my faith.

One morning during breakfast, a missionary shared she would be staying back instead of going sight-seeing because she feels overstimulated from all the information and the noise from the conference. As we continued talking, we learned that we both have suffered from meningitis. I shared my experience with viral meningitis and how long it took me to recover. She shared how hearing my story that she felt seen and understood about her health and her limited capacity with her bout of meningitis. It was also fun to learn how TCK Connect played such a vital role in the life of her oldest son that it was a lifeline for him in his last years in high school. He went and spoke at the Transit Lounge this past summer – a transition camp Interaction International holds for high school TCKs transitioning to university. Two of my worlds intersecting together was so cool.

This was my first encounter in Asia and getting to experience some of the Asian culture was an amazing experience and the food was delicious and full of flavor. The awe of a different country, culture, and habitat for animals and plants are works of wonderment. What a creative and artistic God we serve.  One of my highlights was also getting to know most of my Refresh & Resound International Team. There were thirteen of us, five were on the worship team, seven were on the care/prayer team, and one savvy tech guy. I am deeply grateful for this unique opportunity to hear how God is active and working for every tribe, tongue, and nation to know him and to refresh the hearts of his saints.

I am so grateful for YOU, my amazing team!  My prayer warriors who have interceded on my behalf.  My generous givers who contributed that gave me a peace of mind.  My network of referrals who shared on my behalf and invited me to come and share about the Lord’s ministry.  My encouragers who sent a timely email, text, and card letting me know I am not alone.  My programmers as I did receive many invitations to come and share at churches, camps, and groups.  My providers who provided hospitality along the way.  My caregivers who invested and spoke life into my emotional and spiritual life.  Your life has made a difference in my life!

If you invest in the life of just one missionary, (a.k.a. Shannon).  It’s like a pebble that is dropped in the ocean.  It creates a ripple.  But God takes that ripple, and he builds it into a massive tidal wave that affects every generation into eternity. Join this amazing team!  Together, let’s be on mission with Jesus.

In November I will be sending my support letter with ways on how you can use your gift of generosity to invest in this ministry and in my life so that together we can equip, care, and coach ministry workers.  Refreshing hearts so that ministry workers know they are loved, supported, and connected as they continue to advance the gospel of Jesus Christ.

“And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need, and plenty left over to share with others.”

2 Corinthians 9:8 (NLT)

SHANNON’S CORNER Camp News! Cherry Run Camp is my green pasture and quiet waters where the Lord continuously restores my soul.  This camp was even more special as I was invited to be the missionary in residence for the nine days of camp. Sharing with all age groups about missions and how as believers and followers of Christ we are all called to go and make disciples by sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. It was a week that was fulfilling to be with my family and the family of God as we fellowshipped one with another. As missionaries, we first need to make connections and build relationships with people before sharing the Good News. The youth were given the mission to level up: 1) make connection by introducing themselves to people and making them feel welcomed; 2) ask the person what they need prayer for; 3) the youth to pray with the person on the spot; 4) the youth to share their testimony; and 5) the person is asked to share their testimony.  The yo...

SHANNON’S CORNER I will be joining my team with Refresh & Resound International as we will be in Penang, Malaysia.  Some of the team will be doing worship and the rest of us will be providing care and prayer for the spiritual leaders’ retreat and conference for around 220 global workers who work in translating the Scriptures in SE Asia.  Please be in prayer for my team as well as for everyone at these events.  I will share with you more next month so stay tuned. I have so enjoyed the slower pace this month and the opportunity to finish all of my nursing continuing education classes as well as some life coaching continuing education.  The slower pace has also given me time to be able to pause and reflect on this past summer and check-in with myself.  There have been some things that surfaced to the top of some transition losses that I needed to acknowledge, process, and grieve them.  God gently reminding me that I am still in the season of re-entr...
