 SHANNON’S CORNER

Rejoice, rejoice Emmanuel has come!

A reflection through the lens of advent.

HOPE…

It is always darkest before the dawn.  Ministry Workers I have worked with have shared parts of their stories in their darkest valleys, where things seemed hopeless and powerless and where they were stuck and drowning.  A place where they could not breathe.  Emmanuel, God with us, met them in those dark places and His light breathed hope and life into the darkness.

PEACE…

Thanks for being Spirit led and for really helping me process through some tough stuff!” – a ministry worker shared as she finished her debrief and care sessions.

“Wow…now looking at my timeline, no wonder I feel this heavy weight on my shoulders.” – a ministry worker shared during a debrief.

“I didn’t realize how much loss has accumulated and the impact it’s had on me.” – a ministry worker shared in a care session.

JOY…

Celebrating Christmas with the students of TCK Connect as we exchanged our virtual gifts with one another.  The gift typically reflects the interests of the person receiving the gift.  Unless you do not know the person well then you gift the person with a pirate because everyone wants to have a pirate ðŸ˜Š.

Finding the joy in the simple, often overlooked things that quietly enrich our lives reminds me of the Christmas story and how Jesus came as a baby.  Listening to an Irish story about the baby Jesus.  This past Sunday, the children’s choir sang a song about how Christmas is celebrated around the world in various ways.

LOVE…

Someone recently asked me why I am helping Brenda, a Board Director, with writing policies for Cherry Run Camp?  My answer is that I love Cherry Run Camp and its mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ.  Policy is an important framework to have as a nonprofit organization to be in right standing with laws and regulations, right standing with those the camp serves, and right standing with God.  Plus, the joy of doing this work with Brenda, my sister, is icing on the cake.  “I love because God first loved me” (1 Jn. 4:19).

Here is the vision I have for 2025:

My goals are 1) to provide a safe place of care for 500 ministry workers to grieve their losses freely, 2) to equip and train 5 churches for clarity in their role and responsibilities along with the tools to care well for their missionaries, and 3) to provide coaching for five people to move forward that is best for them in a season of transition by the end of December 2025…and I can’t do this alone.

Will you join me?

Come and use your talents and skills to advance the Kingdom of God:

  • Join my monthly support team.
  • Invitation to give a year-end donation.
  • Host an event in your home, church, or business.
  • Invite other churches, businesses, or personal contacts to give.

I would love to come and speak at your next special gathering, event, retreat, or conference with tailored meaningful and engaging conversations that deeply resonates, leaving you ready to take your next right step.  Three goals I have are 1) evoke awareness, 2) equip you with tools to use in ministry and personal life, and 3) create space for connection and growth.  Let’s collaborate and together be a catalyst for connection and growth.

SHANNON’S CORNER The Saga Continues… The trip to Malaysia consisted of a two-day spiritual retreat with the theme of ‘Come Away With Me’ and a six-day conference with about 230 missionaries who serve in some aspect of translating the Scriptures. One of the many people who I met was a missionary who served in Cameroon for many years and now is in a new role. As he was sharing, most his words were very negative and depressive. I encouraged him to sign up for a time of prayer and care. At the end of the retreat, this missionary shared with me that he did have a session and I could see that his whole countenance changed, and he was hopeful. His new word he used to describe where he was now is ‘delightful.’ Our time there was creating a safe space for these missionaries to have a place to share what they are struggling with and to connect with Jesus. One missionary is at a crossroads in her life. Another finds himself in the midst of betrayal. A missionary is in a new role as a caregi...

SHANNON’S CORNER Be still. Be present. Behold. The prayer labyrinth is a journey that draws us closer to the heart of God with every step.  It’s a path where we listen, trust, and follow, knowing that He is always guiding us.  As we walk this path of prayer, we learn to recognize His voice, to lean into His presence, and to surrender to His direction.  It’s not just about where we’re going—it’s about who we’re walking with.  Lent this year has been a journey of walking inward toward the center of the labyrinth. Along the way, releasing my burdens to Jesus who is my beast of burden (Zec. 9:9), the One who carries what I cannot.  Arriving at the center, I find a resting place for my soul (Mt. 11:28-30) and resting in God’s loving embrace as He makes room for the new to spring up within me (Is. 43:18-19).  Now I’m journeying out of the labyrinth with the anointing of His presence and with an overflowing cup (Ps 23:5). Such an honor a...

SHANNON’S CORNER Connect. Nurture. Grow. Thank you for your faithfulness in praying for this ministry.  Each debrief is a sacred invitation—a chance to step into someone’s story, even if only for a short stretch of the journey.  It feels a bit like being allowed to glimpse a painting still in progress.  We may not yet see the final picture, but we trust the One who promises to complete the good work He has begun until the day of Christ Jesus (Phil. 1:6). Recently, in an online debrief, the missionary shared: “ I am in a much better place since our initial meeting.  Taking the time to process my lived experience overseas and to grieve the losses, I now feel I have the capacity to move forward here in my new season of life. ” We also had the joy of walking alongside three third culture children. To see their eyes light up as their stories were received with understanding and care was priceless.  These children do not often have many who truly grasp their unique li...
