SHANNON’S CORNER

Connect. Nurture. Grow.

Thank you for your faithfulness in praying for this ministry.  Each debrief is a sacred invitation—a chance to step into someone’s story, even if only for a short stretch of the journey.  It feels a bit like being allowed to glimpse a painting still in progress.  We may not yet see the final picture, but we trust the One who promises to complete the good work He has begun until the day of Christ Jesus (Phil. 1:6).

Recently, in an online debrief, the missionary shared: “I am in a much better place since our initial meeting.  Taking the time to process my lived experience overseas and to grieve the losses, I now feel I have the capacity to move forward here in my new season of life.

We also had the joy of walking alongside three third culture children. To see their eyes light up as their stories were received with understanding and care was priceless.  These children do not often have many who truly grasp their unique life experience, and yet through a listening ear and nurturing presence, their hearts were touched and affirmed.

Another debrief was with a young family who intentionally stepped away from support raising to pause, reflect, and process their last term.  Together, we explored the “heart-pack” they carry—the things weighing them down, the treasures to hold onto, and the tools already in their hands.  It was a sacred time of releasing, surrendering, and also receiving new tools to repack into their “heart-pack” as they walk into the season ahead.

Stories like this are possible because of your prayers. Each time you lift this ministry before the Father, you are helping to create a safe space for people to pause, reflect, and heal.  Your intercession is part of the unseen brushstrokes God is using to bring restoration and hope into lives in transition.  “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3

We are excited to share that TCK Connect has launched once again, weekly meetings during the school year.  At our very first gathering, 23 students ages 12–18 came together, along with four student leaders and four adult leaders.  This year we are especially thankful to welcome three new student leaders—an incredible answer to prayer as older students are stepping up to guide and invest in their peers.

Our first meeting was filled with energy and connection as we got to know where everyone is currently living. For introductions, we played a game called Commonality—discovering all the things we share in common as a group, and then each person naming something unique about themselves that no one else could claim.  It was a beautiful reminder that while these students share many experiences as third culture kids, each also carries their own story, gifts, and individuality.

Please continue to pray for these student leaders as they grow in confidence and maturity, and for all students to find a safe place of belonging where they feel both understood and celebrated.  May God use this community to nurture deep friendships and strengthen faith during these formative years.

Life Transitions Coaching with Shannon:

This past month, I’ve had the joy of coaching four individuals, each navigating very different life transitions.  One was settling into a new place and asking, How do I form friendships here?  Another was stepping into a new role and exploring, Who do I want to become in this position?  Still another was considering a career transition, working through what is needed, what is healthy, and how to approach the change with wisdom. And one was walking through a season of ministry growth, discerning what structures and support are needed in this new growth phase.

In each session, subtle but powerful shifts took place.  Clients walked away with fresh awareness, new ideas to try, and a renewed sense of hope and focus for what lies ahead.  If you—or someone you know—are in a season of transition, I would love to walk alongside you as a coach.

As you can see, God is at work in many different ways—through debriefs, with TCK Connect, and in the lives of those walking through life transitions.  Each story is a reminder that healing, growth, and hope come when we make space to pause, reflect, and invite Him into the journey.  Thank you for the vital role you play through your prayers, encouragement, and support.  My prayer for you is that in your own transitions, you would also experience the Father’s faithful presence, guiding hand, and sustaining grace.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 15:13

SHANNON’S CORNER Winter Blast… Brr. It’s cold outside.  Winter is not a favorite season for many people, but I love winter. There is a beauty in the dormant, snow covered, and coldness of winter that embraces and permeates us to the depths of our bones.  It reminds me of the Lord’s love that embraces and permeates us to the depths of our heart and soul.  The snow brings a smile to my face as I delight in the quietness, calming, beautifying, and a slower pace.  Recently, I was talking with someone in Louisiana who was going to be making a snowman and snow angel with his granddaughter.  What playfulness and awe to experience the Lord’s beauty. Community is so important to our lives that even the Lord noticed how alone Adam was in the garden that He made Eve.  It is where you are seen, known, and find belonging.  It has been something I have prayed for, asked you all to be praying for, have sought after in ...

SHANNON’S CORNER Connect. Nurture. Grow. An unexpected and unplanned trip led me to see God’s marvelous and wonderful work at the Assist Pregnancy Center. I learned from the staff that this pregnancy center is unique and different in that the population they serve are women who come already with an 85-90% decision made of aborting their babies. The medical staff who are in the rooms with the women during their ultrasounds share Jesus with them and are compassionate witnesses to each baby as they are seen, valued, and loved. If the mother decides to have the baby the center walks alongside with the mother and family. I had the precious privilege to facilitate a training with all the staff of the pregnancy center to talk about the Wounds from the Work.  Listening to their stories of how the Lord called them to work at this pregnancy center and what the cost has been to them, and their families was sacred ground.  Creating a safe place for them to be seen and heard in thei...

SHANNON’S CORNER The Saga Continues… The trip to Malaysia consisted of a two-day spiritual retreat with the theme of ‘Come Away With Me’ and a six-day conference with about 230 missionaries who serve in some aspect of translating the Scriptures. One of the many people who I met was a missionary who served in Cameroon for many years and now is in a new role. As he was sharing, most his words were very negative and depressive. I encouraged him to sign up for a time of prayer and care. At the end of the retreat, this missionary shared with me that he did have a session and I could see that his whole countenance changed, and he was hopeful. His new word he used to describe where he was now is ‘delightful.’ Our time there was creating a safe space for these missionaries to have a place to share what they are struggling with and to connect with Jesus. One missionary is at a crossroads in her life. Another finds himself in the midst of betrayal. A missionary is in a new role as a caregi...
