Merry Christmas!

 SHANNON’S CORNER

HOPE OF THE WORLD!

Jesus is the reason for this Christmas season. He is our Prince of Peace, our joy to the world, and love that came down. Jesus has already come as a baby, Messiah and Savior and he is yet to come as our King of kings and Lord of lords.  Are you ready to receive?  Are you eagerly anticipating his coming again?

We as adults can many times make things so complex and complicated when it is really, simple.  As I was preparing for the Third Culture Kid debrief, I had many games and activities ready in my arsenal to use, yet what was needed was time to just be kids and play.  The family just recently got back to the US, so they were in the throes of transition in hitting the ground running with the holidays, seeing family, supporters, and friends.  The kids needed a space for them to use their imaginations and creativity.  Play gave them back some control in all the chaos of uncertainty in the transition.

During the three days, the kids would tell me what I needed to do or who I needed to
be as we would play. There was a range of comfortable and uncomfortable emotions throughout our three days of play, yet I had the amazing privilege to hear tidbits of their story sprinkled throughout our play.  Some of the fun things the kids had us play were having a store and buying things, hiding toys and then saying hot or cold when trying to find the toys, playing with cars, trains, and trucks, and their favorite was playing chase.

Jehovah Jireh, the Lord provides is faithful and encouraging me as we are over halfway to $40,000.  Here is what has been raised to date, one-time gift is $3,951.  My monthly and quarterly supporters continue with $21,940.  The total raised and pledged is $25,891.  There is still time to give, and I still need your help to reach the goal.

Would you be a monthly partner?

Would you give a one-time gift?

Would you refer a friend?

Would you ask your church to give?

Would you ask your small group to give?

Would you refer a business to give an end of the year donation?

Join the team and be rewarded.  Together we can move mountains and advance the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The most wonderful time of the year usually brings celebrations.  TCK Connect had a virtual Christmas party as we shared the virtual gifts, we got one another.  There were some very fabulous gifts given and so thoughtful. Here is a sampling of the gifts given, art supplies, 2024 Olympic tickets, VIP to see the Broncos play, cooking lessons, monthly subscription to books, a comfortable bed to sleep, popcorn maker, and an adventure pass.  Safe Place Ministry celebrated as a team virtually through the Grinch’s story with games and laughter.  Some of the Safe Place team who live in Pennsylvania got together for lunch and watched a Christmas concert which was entertaining, fun, and delightful to be together in celebrating Christmas.

Reflecting over this year, there has been so many things that have happened in 2023. Here is a quick overview of who we served this past year that reached across 43 countries.

SHANNON’S CORNER The Saga Continues… The trip to Malaysia consisted of a two-day spiritual retreat with the theme of ‘Come Away With Me’ and a six-day conference with about 230 missionaries who serve in some aspect of translating the Scriptures. One of the many people who I met was a missionary who served in Cameroon for many years and now is in a new role. As he was sharing, most his words were very negative and depressive. I encouraged him to sign up for a time of prayer and care. At the end of the retreat, this missionary shared with me that he did have a session and I could see that his whole countenance changed, and he was hopeful. His new word he used to describe where he was now is ‘delightful.’ Our time there was creating a safe space for these missionaries to have a place to share what they are struggling with and to connect with Jesus. One missionary is at a crossroads in her life. Another finds himself in the midst of betrayal. A missionary is in a new role as a caregi...

SHANNON’S CORNER Be still. Be present. Behold. The prayer labyrinth is a journey that draws us closer to the heart of God with every step.  It’s a path where we listen, trust, and follow, knowing that He is always guiding us.  As we walk this path of prayer, we learn to recognize His voice, to lean into His presence, and to surrender to His direction.  It’s not just about where we’re going—it’s about who we’re walking with.  Lent this year has been a journey of walking inward toward the center of the labyrinth. Along the way, releasing my burdens to Jesus who is my beast of burden (Zec. 9:9), the One who carries what I cannot.  Arriving at the center, I find a resting place for my soul (Mt. 11:28-30) and resting in God’s loving embrace as He makes room for the new to spring up within me (Is. 43:18-19).  Now I’m journeying out of the labyrinth with the anointing of His presence and with an overflowing cup (Ps 23:5). Such an honor a...

SHANNON’S CORNER Connect. Nurture. Grow. Thank you for your faithfulness in praying for this ministry.  Each debrief is a sacred invitation—a chance to step into someone’s story, even if only for a short stretch of the journey.  It feels a bit like being allowed to glimpse a painting still in progress.  We may not yet see the final picture, but we trust the One who promises to complete the good work He has begun until the day of Christ Jesus (Phil. 1:6). Recently, in an online debrief, the missionary shared: “ I am in a much better place since our initial meeting.  Taking the time to process my lived experience overseas and to grieve the losses, I now feel I have the capacity to move forward here in my new season of life. ” We also had the joy of walking alongside three third culture children. To see their eyes light up as their stories were received with understanding and care was priceless.  These children do not often have many who truly grasp their unique li...
