AARGH…UGH...HUMPH...

 SHANNON’S CORNER

AARGH…UGH...HUMPH...
As I sit to write this newsletter it has been a struggle to know what to share and write since this month has been very mundane.  As I type the word mundane it led me to think about the book, The Sacred Mundane by Connie Befus that I just finished reading.  It is the author’s journey of how to practice Romans 12:1 of being a living sacrifice…a spiritual act of worship.  She shares how often we separate things and people into the categories like the sacred and the mundane.  And yet God, who is omnipresent and omniscient meaning He is in it all.  Everything.  This concept has made me to stop and ponder how often in my own life I separate things without realizing it – this is God’s and this is mine.  How can I invite God into the daily, ordinary, mundane aspects of my life?  What does that look like?  Maybe we can encourage and build one another up in inviting God into our daily, ordinary, mundane lives and sharing our testimonies of how we are journeying.

As many kids finished this school year and are starting summer vacation, I got to hang out a handful of days with my two nephews.  Our days were full of playing outside sports, ping pong ball trick shots, some water activities along with a little rest and drinking lots of water.  Lots of fun, laughter, and sun.  I also got to spend a few days with my sister, Mary Jane and her family.  Playing games of monopoly but timed, dinosaurs (which mine always got eaten), watching them do tricks with their dog, Ezra, and soccer with the kids.  Having the opportunity to finally watch my niece play soccer even in between the rain drops.  Having good conversations with Mary Jane and Kurt and helping her with a couple of projects.  Filling up my family bucket with love, fun, laughter, and quality time.

I AM SO EXCITED to share with you that July 10th is the launch date for the Life Coaching services I will be providing through Safe Place Ministry.  I sent my application to become accredited through the Board of Christian Life Coaching which they say can take 4-8 weeks for them to process and approve the accreditation.  The earliest I would know will be end of June.  I am so blessed with the incredible team members at Safe Place Ministry as they have been such a support and encouragement along the way, and they are as excited as I am in launching this new service for those we serve.  Just have a few pieces to put into place so be in prayer for our team as we finish those things prior to the launch.  Safe Place Ministry has made some transitions with people and roles, please be in prayer as the transition continues to go smoothly and everyone is able to adjust to their new roles.

I finished my first season of TCK Connect (adolescents) and adult TCK Connect (university and career) with Interaction International.  I so enjoyed working and ministering with both groups and the leaders.  I really learned a lot of things about Third Culture Kids and even more in the adult years that was very enlightening.  A big thing is how TCKs approach relationships especially in their adult years versus how monocultures (people who live only in passport country) approach relationships.  TCKs dive deeper quicker because they may not have much time to spend with the person because either they or the person will end up leaving.  The monocultural approach to deeper relationships is through shared experiences which usually takes time.  Fascinating.  We had a party for all the TCK Connect leaders which we did a virtual escape room.  So grateful for my teammates as I felt so lost in the riddles and math problems to find the way out but enjoyed the experience as we all dressed up as pirates to get in the role.  We are on a summer hiatus since the leaders of Interaction International have many transitional camps going on throughout the summer for TCKs who are going to be going to the university in the fall or soon will be going to university or coming back to live in the US now that they are 18 years old and not where their families are serving.

In BCM Peru news, my fellow missionaries have taken a couple of mission trips within Peru.  One group went to Iquitos in the Amazon rainforest to evangelize to kids in the area and equip the churches in the area as well.  Another group traveled to Pampacangallo in the Andes Mountains with their students from the biblical institute to evangelize and train pastors in the local churches.  This is a season where the BCM missionaries such as Jonathan and Estefanny Gonzales, Karina Grandez and Luz del Mar Gonzales are doing bible clubs with many churches throughout Lima as well as training and equipping church laypeople to do their own bible clubs.  Other missionaries like Marlon and Luz del Mar Gonzales and Ricardo and Karina Grandez are professors, teaching and training their students at the bible institute.  Please keep them all in your prayers.

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”

Romans 12:1

SHANNON’S CORNER The Saga Continues… The trip to Malaysia consisted of a two-day spiritual retreat with the theme of ‘Come Away With Me’ and a six-day conference with about 230 missionaries who serve in some aspect of translating the Scriptures. One of the many people who I met was a missionary who served in Cameroon for many years and now is in a new role. As he was sharing, most his words were very negative and depressive. I encouraged him to sign up for a time of prayer and care. At the end of the retreat, this missionary shared with me that he did have a session and I could see that his whole countenance changed, and he was hopeful. His new word he used to describe where he was now is ‘delightful.’ Our time there was creating a safe space for these missionaries to have a place to share what they are struggling with and to connect with Jesus. One missionary is at a crossroads in her life. Another finds himself in the midst of betrayal. A missionary is in a new role as a caregi...

SHANNON’S CORNER Camp News! Cherry Run Camp is my green pasture and quiet waters where the Lord continuously restores my soul.  This camp was even more special as I was invited to be the missionary in residence for the nine days of camp. Sharing with all age groups about missions and how as believers and followers of Christ we are all called to go and make disciples by sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. It was a week that was fulfilling to be with my family and the family of God as we fellowshipped one with another. As missionaries, we first need to make connections and build relationships with people before sharing the Good News. The youth were given the mission to level up: 1) make connection by introducing themselves to people and making them feel welcomed; 2) ask the person what they need prayer for; 3) the youth to pray with the person on the spot; 4) the youth to share their testimony; and 5) the person is asked to share their testimony.  The yo...

SHANNON’S CORNER I will be joining my team with Refresh & Resound International as we will be in Penang, Malaysia.  Some of the team will be doing worship and the rest of us will be providing care and prayer for the spiritual leaders’ retreat and conference for around 220 global workers who work in translating the Scriptures in SE Asia.  Please be in prayer for my team as well as for everyone at these events.  I will share with you more next month so stay tuned. I have so enjoyed the slower pace this month and the opportunity to finish all of my nursing continuing education classes as well as some life coaching continuing education.  The slower pace has also given me time to be able to pause and reflect on this past summer and check-in with myself.  There have been some things that surfaced to the top of some transition losses that I needed to acknowledge, process, and grieve them.  God gently reminding me that I am still in the season of re-entr...
