Happy New Year 2023!

 SHANNON’S CORNER

Happy New Year!

Starting off this new year I am taking a 20-day member care class called, Focused Leader. The instructor is having us develop a biblical purpose statement that reflects our being in why God created us versus our doing.  The DOING can end at any time, but the BEING will not end.  In Jeremiah 1:5 God already had a plan for Jeremiah’s life before Jeremiah was in his mother’s womb and set him apart before he was even born.  In Psalm 139, we are fearfully and wonderfully made, and God has ordained all our days before one came to be.  God uses all things – people and experiences, to form and shape us towards His purposes which He continues to develop and transform us over our lifetime (Rom. 8:28).

Looking at the photo to the right, which direction does he row towards?

He looks into his past to find orientation and direction for his future.  Many of us make goals for the new year.  This year take time to reflect on how the year(s) have shaped you, how the lessons you’ve learned and how your values have informed your behaviors and decision-making skills.  Do any of your goals reflect your being, who you are?  If not, I encourage you to take time to reflect and pray through how God sees you and why He created you.  I am working on my biblical purpose statement and hope to have it by the end of my class so will share it with you next month.  Would love to hear your biblical purpose statement and goals about being.

TCK Connect has restarted this month and the teens were glad to be back together after a few weeks off.  One activity they had us do was to write a poem about passports within five minutes, each person in the group had to participate, and there had to be as many lines as number of people in your group.  My group had three people and we came up with a great poem although we did not win.  Our poem was about being at the airport but not knowing where it is, being anxious as it contains the stamps of life and your siblings being prankish (why you cannot find your passport).  Didn’t have time to finish our thoughts.  Please be in prayer for the teens who are in my small group as many do not have friends where they are living and how that is impacting their lives in not feeling connected, being part of a community of their peers.  Some have shared that they feel isolated because of the lack of friends.

Last year Bethann wrote a book, The Invitation which is about relationships and more specifically on healthy marriages.  A great book for individuals, couples, and even small groups to take a deeper dive into growing a healthy connection with God, Self, and Others (spouse).  Bethann asked if I would be able to translate it into Spanish.  I have worked on translating this book into Spanish.  I have enjoyed being able to not only practice my Spanish but also praying for those who will be able to read it in Spanish and be touched and inspired as they grow deeper into healthy connections with God, Self, and Others (spouse).

My financial budget goal for 2023 is to raise $36,000.  God’s goodness and faithfulness as He has abundantly provided.  My monthly and quarterly donations have grown to $25,580 for the year.  The annual and one-time donations are $11,470.  A grand total of $37,050.  Join me in praising God who is faithful and good.

I thank my God every time I remember you because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.  Your encouragement and support no matter where God has assigned me, abroad or in the USA.  Rejoicing that the Good News is being preached because Christ is life.  I will sing of the goodness of God.  Just as Paul states in Philippians 4:17-19, “Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account. I have received full payment and have more than enough...They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” That the fruit of your gifts will abound and be accounted to you before our God because of your faithfulness and obedience to Him.

“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.  The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.  Amen.”

Philippians 1:9-11; 4:23

SHANNON’S CORNER The Saga Continues… The trip to Malaysia consisted of a two-day spiritual retreat with the theme of ‘Come Away With Me’ and a six-day conference with about 230 missionaries who serve in some aspect of translating the Scriptures. One of the many people who I met was a missionary who served in Cameroon for many years and now is in a new role. As he was sharing, most his words were very negative and depressive. I encouraged him to sign up for a time of prayer and care. At the end of the retreat, this missionary shared with me that he did have a session and I could see that his whole countenance changed, and he was hopeful. His new word he used to describe where he was now is ‘delightful.’ Our time there was creating a safe space for these missionaries to have a place to share what they are struggling with and to connect with Jesus. One missionary is at a crossroads in her life. Another finds himself in the midst of betrayal. A missionary is in a new role as a caregi...

SHANNON’S CORNER Camp News! Cherry Run Camp is my green pasture and quiet waters where the Lord continuously restores my soul.  This camp was even more special as I was invited to be the missionary in residence for the nine days of camp. Sharing with all age groups about missions and how as believers and followers of Christ we are all called to go and make disciples by sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. It was a week that was fulfilling to be with my family and the family of God as we fellowshipped one with another. As missionaries, we first need to make connections and build relationships with people before sharing the Good News. The youth were given the mission to level up: 1) make connection by introducing themselves to people and making them feel welcomed; 2) ask the person what they need prayer for; 3) the youth to pray with the person on the spot; 4) the youth to share their testimony; and 5) the person is asked to share their testimony.  The yo...

SHANNON’S CORNER I will be joining my team with Refresh & Resound International as we will be in Penang, Malaysia.  Some of the team will be doing worship and the rest of us will be providing care and prayer for the spiritual leaders’ retreat and conference for around 220 global workers who work in translating the Scriptures in SE Asia.  Please be in prayer for my team as well as for everyone at these events.  I will share with you more next month so stay tuned. I have so enjoyed the slower pace this month and the opportunity to finish all of my nursing continuing education classes as well as some life coaching continuing education.  The slower pace has also given me time to be able to pause and reflect on this past summer and check-in with myself.  There have been some things that surfaced to the top of some transition losses that I needed to acknowledge, process, and grieve them.  God gently reminding me that I am still in the season of re-entr...
