Happy Thanksgiving!

  SHANNON’S CORNER

Tis the season of gratitude and thanksgiving. I have so much that I am grateful for that could fill up pages so I will just share from this past month what I am grateful.

My family.  I am thankful for each one and how they have impacted my life this year in one way or another.  Even with our differences that we love and care for one another.  It was great to celebrate Thanksgiving together and share with one another what we have been grateful for over this past year.  Also, loved playing four-square with the nieces and nephews and spicey Uno with the older nieces and adults.

My global church family – the body of Christ.  God using you to chip away my hard edges that I have grown and matured in my spiritual walk and have been challenged by you all, my fellow brothers, and sisters in Christ.  I have been encouraged, strengthened, and refreshed by you.  Your prayers on my behalf as you intercede for me remind me of the prayers Jesus is already praying for each one of us even before we may realize our circumstance or situation that arises.  Your financial support for the ministry God is doing in ‘Refreshing the saints.’  Sharing your faith with me of what God has and is doing in your life.  Studying the Word of God together.

Release Time. How amazing that for at least 60 years the Union School District has allowed for their students with parents’ permission to leave school property for an hour to learn about the Good News of Jesus Christ.  I recently had the privilege to speak to the 6th, 2nd, & 3rd graders at Release Time sharing with them some of the things I get to do with the missionary kids in helping them to process their losses due to the high mobility in their lives and how that impacts, forms, and shapes them.  As I shared with them about Jesus losing his best friend, Lazarus and how he grieved that we too need to grieve our losses big and small.  I shared with them the journey of grief map that I use with the MKs and my favorite was
watching the activity to represent a swamp of sadness where sometimes it can feel like we are stuck and hard to get out of the muck and mire.  But we are not alone in it and Jesus is there in the midst of it with us.

Rimersburg UMC.  Worshipping again with you all and sharing what God has been and is doing in my life and in the ministry that He has given me was such a joy and delight.  Reconnecting with so many of you and some who I have not seen for years.  Stepping into a place where I am known is life giving to me.

Cherry Run Women’s Retreat.  The theme was connectedness – God, others, and self.  I was encouraged and refreshed in ways that pleasantly surprised me.  I so enjoyed seeing Brenda, Emily, and Sara using their giftings and talents as they planned and facilitated the retreat for us women.  Getting to reconnect with my fellow Cherry Runners and meeting some new ladies as well.  The testimonies that these ladies shared spoke to me and drew me more into community with them and with Jesus.

His provision.  A new place to live that is affordable, closer to my sister, and still close to the local church I have been attending.  I need to raise $36,000 for 2023.  I am so grateful to all of you who are continuing to give monthly, quarterly, and annually.  If my monthly and quarterly pledges stay the same plus with what has come in since October, I am at $24,500.  God is so good.  Please be praying for how God wants to use you.  Would you consider increasing your gift?  Would you refer me to friends, groups, and churches who would consider supporting this ministry?  Would you consider becoming a monthly donor at $30, $50, $100, $200 or ________.  You can check out the blue box for how you’d like to give.  Anticipating of how God is going to use His Body to provide for this financial need and how we will both grow in our faith and trust in Him.

“I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness;
    I will sing the praises of the name of the Lord Most High.

Psalm 7:17

  SHANNON’S CORNER The Saga Continues… The trip to Malaysia consisted of a two-day spiritual retreat with the theme of ‘Come Away With Me’ and a six-day conference with about 230 missionaries who serve in some aspect of translating the Scriptures. One of the many people who I met was a missionary who served in Cameroon for many years and now is in a new role. As he was sharing, most his words were very negative and depressive. I encouraged him to sign up for a time of prayer and care. At the end of the retreat, this missionary shared with me that he did have a session and I could see that his whole countenance changed, and he was hopeful. His new word he used to describe where he was now is ‘delightful.’ Our time there was creating a safe space for these missionaries to have a place to share what they are struggling with and to connect with Jesus. One missionary is at a crossroads in her life. Another finds himself in the midst of betrayal. A missionary is in a new role as a caregi...

  SHANNON’S CORNER Camp News! Cherry Run Camp is my green pasture and quiet waters where the Lord continuously restores my soul.  This camp was even more special as I was invited to be the missionary in residence for the nine days of camp. Sharing with all age groups about missions and how as believers and followers of Christ we are all called to go and make disciples by sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. It was a week that was fulfilling to be with my family and the family of God as we fellowshipped one with another. As missionaries, we first need to make connections and build relationships with people before sharing the Good News. The youth were given the mission to level up: 1) make connection by introducing themselves to people and making them feel welcomed; 2) ask the person what they need prayer for; 3) the youth to pray with the person on the spot; 4) the youth to share their testimony; and 5) the person is asked to share their testimony.  The yo...

  SHANNON’S CORNER I will be joining my team with Refresh & Resound International as we will be in Penang, Malaysia.  Some of the team will be doing worship and the rest of us will be providing care and prayer for the spiritual leaders’ retreat and conference for around 220 global workers who work in translating the Scriptures in SE Asia.  Please be in prayer for my team as well as for everyone at these events.  I will share with you more next month so stay tuned. I have so enjoyed the slower pace this month and the opportunity to finish all of my nursing continuing education classes as well as some life coaching continuing education.  The slower pace has also given me time to be able to pause and reflect on this past summer and check-in with myself.  There have been some things that surfaced to the top of some transition losses that I needed to acknowledge, process, and grieve them.  God gently reminding me that I am still in the season of re-entr...
