Family. Ministry. Support raising.

 SHANNON’S CORNER

Quality time is one of my love languages and so spending time with some amazing people was such a delight.  I spent a week with Ryan and Haylie while Brenda and Mark celebrated their anniversary in Iceland.  I was pleasantly surprised as I was in the area to see Rylie play her first college softball game for Grove City College.  I really enjoyed watching Morgan play volleyball.  Hanging out on the sidelines with Bryan, Britt, Dad, Maureen, and Jane.  Hanging out with Rachel and Theo to see Jack play soccer and Miro coaching the team and later in the car as we drove to see Mary Jane, Kurt, Oliva, James, and Aliza to help Mary Jane with her project.

Since most of my ministry is virtual it really makes traveling convenient.  It has been a blessing and a delight to facilitate my Facebook Connection Group of women who are in transition this month.  Just having other like-minded women who I have connected with because of the similar experiences has been encouraging.  We have a theme each week and the recent one we’ve all commented the most on is Trust.

Thank you for your prayers in connecting with the teens who participate in the TCK Connect on Friday mornings!  I am starting to get to know them more these last few weeks.  We have started just this past week to have a more consistent small group which I have six teens in my group.  It is cool to see how the teens interact with one another and how engaging they are with what we are doing each week.  I am also getting to know Sheryl and Sarah who are the other two adults who I volunteer with.

Check-ins can be vital and encouraging for people to be heard and seen.  My missionary friends serving with BCM Peru have been very busy this year as they have restarted all their in-person activities and they added on traveling in-country and to other countries to train churches how to do children’s ministry.  I checked in with my friends to see how they are doing with all their travels and busyness.  Marlon and Luz have traveled to Columbia and Bolivia as well as places in Peru.  Karina and Ricardo have traveled to places in Peru and Ricardo has traveled outside of Peru as well.  Estefanny and Jonathan have been busy with children’s summer camps and bible clubs and traveling in Peru as well. They are well though weary from the busyness and traveling.  I believe in the ministry they are doing and how God is using each one of them to advance His Kingdom.  The need to have or build margin in their lives and making sure that they are receiving rest in order to be able to refuel and recharge so that they will not fizzle and burnout.

I was invited to come and share at the Dayton United Methodist Church about the ministry the Lord is doing with me.  It was a delight to be able to stay with Jason and Beth, long time Cherry Runners.  It has been 30+ years since I was in the parsonage where we lived for six years the longest place I have lived in my whole life.  It was awesome to see the changes and the familiar and to share stories with Jason and Beth when my family lived here.  My sisters asked if I would either take photos or video the parsonage so that they could see it and Beth and Jason were gracious in letting me video their home.  It was so much fun to see those who were there that Sunday and to share with them all that God is doing through the ministry He has given me in caring for missionaries, families, Third Culture Kids, pastors, and those in full-time ministry stateside.  It was encouraging.  Loved hearing from everyone how much I look like my mom.  Grateful for their willingness to support me financially and through prayer.

This is the time of year I work on the next year’s budget.  Due to the rise in costs I need to raise $36,000 for 2023.  I am so grateful to all of you who are faithful in supporting me financially through monthly, quarterly, and annually donations as I cannot do this ministry without you.  Please be praying for how God wants to use you.  Would you consider increasing your gift?  Would you refer me to friends, groups, and churches who would consider supporting this ministry?  Would you consider becoming a monthly donor at $30, $50, $100, $200 or ________.  You can check out the blue box for how you’d like to give.  I am trusting God to provide as my Jehovah-Jireh.

Please be in prayer with me as I need to find a new place to live by the end of December as where I currently live will no longer be affordable.  A place that is safe, still in the Harrisburg area, and less than $950/month.  I am grateful that my sister, Rachel is helping me to search for a new place and she knows the area.  Again, trusting God to provide like He did with this apartment.  Trust.

“Cast your burden on the LORD,

and he will sustain you;

he will never permit the righteous to be moved."

Psalm 55:22

  SHANNON’S CORNER The Saga Continues… The trip to Malaysia consisted of a two-day spiritual retreat with the theme of ‘Come Away With Me’ and a six-day conference with about 230 missionaries who serve in some aspect of translating the Scriptures. One of the many people who I met was a missionary who served in Cameroon for many years and now is in a new role. As he was sharing, most his words were very negative and depressive. I encouraged him to sign up for a time of prayer and care. At the end of the retreat, this missionary shared with me that he did have a session and I could see that his whole countenance changed, and he was hopeful. His new word he used to describe where he was now is ‘delightful.’ Our time there was creating a safe space for these missionaries to have a place to share what they are struggling with and to connect with Jesus. One missionary is at a crossroads in her life. Another finds himself in the midst of betrayal. A missionary is in a new role as a caregi...

  SHANNON’S CORNER Camp News! Cherry Run Camp is my green pasture and quiet waters where the Lord continuously restores my soul.  This camp was even more special as I was invited to be the missionary in residence for the nine days of camp. Sharing with all age groups about missions and how as believers and followers of Christ we are all called to go and make disciples by sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. It was a week that was fulfilling to be with my family and the family of God as we fellowshipped one with another. As missionaries, we first need to make connections and build relationships with people before sharing the Good News. The youth were given the mission to level up: 1) make connection by introducing themselves to people and making them feel welcomed; 2) ask the person what they need prayer for; 3) the youth to pray with the person on the spot; 4) the youth to share their testimony; and 5) the person is asked to share their testimony.  The yo...

  SHANNON’S CORNER I will be joining my team with Refresh & Resound International as we will be in Penang, Malaysia.  Some of the team will be doing worship and the rest of us will be providing care and prayer for the spiritual leaders’ retreat and conference for around 220 global workers who work in translating the Scriptures in SE Asia.  Please be in prayer for my team as well as for everyone at these events.  I will share with you more next month so stay tuned. I have so enjoyed the slower pace this month and the opportunity to finish all of my nursing continuing education classes as well as some life coaching continuing education.  The slower pace has also given me time to be able to pause and reflect on this past summer and check-in with myself.  There have been some things that surfaced to the top of some transition losses that I needed to acknowledge, process, and grieve them.  God gently reminding me that I am still in the season of re-entr...
