Intern weekend in Jarabacoa
This summer has been busy, challenging, and good.  I learned a lot through our interns and the various things God has been teaching them these six weeks.

I was travelling to Monte Plata about three hours away to see two of our interns serving there and it rained the whole way to Monte Plata.  In fact, I believe I was headed into the storms because the further I travelled the more rain there was.  There was so much rain that day that it caused some flooding in Santo Domingo. Usually, when it rains when I’m driving I can have a negative mindset about the rain as it sometimes can make me tired.  But one of our interns shared with me her concept of rain, and how the rain is a cleansing reminder from God and the rain brings her peace.  So as I am travelling that is what I recalled and driving in the rain reminded me of God cleansing the air and our earth just like the blood of Jesus cleanses us and makes us pure and holy before the Lord.

I have really enjoyed the Bible studies on knowing God – faithfulness, creator, holiness, and redeemer with the majority of our interns.  How these aspects of God are seen in our lives, our ministries, and even in creation.  Understanding God helps us to understand more of the world in which we live and minister as well as understanding more of ourselves as we are made in His image.

This past month has been challenging in having my car in the garage for almost 3 weeks.  It was not

a major issue, Praise the Lord!  But it took time for the mechanic to figure out the issue and to get the part to fix it.  It needed a sensor to be replaced.  I am very grateful for all the various vehicles I had been given to use while my car was in the garage.  I drove four or five different vehicles while my car was in the garage.  Another challenge for me was teaching the six to nine year old Sunday School class the month of July.  This is a new age group for me and I had between eight to 14 kids. The Sunday School material I was given, the concepts are a little old for this age group so it takes some time to figure out how to bring the concept to this age group.  I also have a few in the class who let’s just say need a little bit more lovin’.

The end of the summer program we had a debrief retreat for our interns at the beach on the North Coast. It is time for them to come back together as a group, time to have one-on-one exit interview with Vic, Leslie, and myself, some group time, and some fun and relaxing time prior to heading back to the USA.  I really enjoyed being able to spend time with all the interns together as a group and continuing to hear how God had worked in them and through them this summer as they shared their stories and processed their summer with us.  Many of our interns are already thinking about either coming back as a summer intern or coming on a team.  Some even feel called to serve God one day in full-time missions.  How exciting to see their passion for the Lord and wanting to be used by God.  

Sunday morning I had the privilege to lead the group devotions and shared on God is good. Good is enough.  Now that they have tasted the Lord and know that he is good this summer how does that look for when they go back to the USA.  It was just a sweet time of being in God’s Word together for one last time as a group.

PRAYER REQUESTS
Praise the Lord for our summer program being a success!
Praise the Lordfor safety and protection as I travelled around the country!
Praise the Lordfor the blessings I received through our interns!
Pray for our interns as they re-enter the USA – smooth transitions.
Prayfor wisdom and discernment.
Prayfor our missionaries who are on furlough this summer.
Prayfor direction and guidance in how God wants me to serve our missionaries here.

  SHANNON’S CORNER The Saga Continues… The trip to Malaysia consisted of a two-day spiritual retreat with the theme of ‘Come Away With Me’ and a six-day conference with about 230 missionaries who serve in some aspect of translating the Scriptures. One of the many people who I met was a missionary who served in Cameroon for many years and now is in a new role. As he was sharing, most his words were very negative and depressive. I encouraged him to sign up for a time of prayer and care. At the end of the retreat, this missionary shared with me that he did have a session and I could see that his whole countenance changed, and he was hopeful. His new word he used to describe where he was now is ‘delightful.’ Our time there was creating a safe space for these missionaries to have a place to share what they are struggling with and to connect with Jesus.   SHANNON’S CORNER Camp News! Cherry Run Camp is my green pasture and quiet waters where the Lord continuously restores my soul.  This camp was even more special as I was invited to be the missionary in residence for the nine days of camp. Sharing with all age groups about missions and how as believers and followers of Christ we are all called to go and make disciples by sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. It was a week that was fulfilling to be with my family and the family of God as we fellowshipped one with another. As missionaries, we first need to make connections and build relationships with people before sharing the Good News. The youth were given the mission to level up: 1) make connection by introducing themselves to people and making them feel welcomed; 2) ask the person what they need prayer for; 3) the youth to pray with the person on the spot; 4) the youth to share their testimony; and 5) the person is asked to share their testimony.  The yo...

  SHANNON’S CORNER I will be joining my team with Refresh & Resound International as we will be in Penang, Malaysia.  Some of the team will be doing worship and the rest of us will be providing care and prayer for the spiritual leaders’ retreat and conference for around 220 global workers who work in translating the Scriptures in SE Asia.  Please be in prayer for my team as well as for everyone at these events.  I will share with you more next month so stay tuned. I have so enjoyed the slower pace this month and the opportunity to finish all of my nursing continuing education classes as well as some life coaching continuing education.  The slower pace has also given me time to be able to pause and reflect on this past summer and check-in with myself.  There have been some things that surfaced to the top of some transition losses that I needed to acknowledge, process, and grieve them.  God gently reminding me that I am still in the season of re-entr...
