Celebrations...God's goodness...

 SHANNON’S CORNER

WooHoo!!!  Congratulations!!!

Take a moment to give a shout out and celebrate with me in praising God’s goodness and faithfulness as He has answered our prayers.  I have received the accreditation as a Board Certified Advanced Christian Life Coach.  On July 10th, Safe Place Ministry launched their website that now provides Life Coaching as a service we offer.  Looking back, it is very exciting to see God’s hand on all of this from the beginning of this journey until now, yet how He only lit the next step that was in front of me and not the whole path.  Thank you all for your prayers and support! Rejoice in the Lord always.

Transitions happen naturally and arise unexpectedly, how you journey through is what matters. Start your journey today.  Take the first step by scheduling your free 20-minute discovery call.

God’s goodness of orchestrating the opportunity for a missionary family who are flying out soon to receive a day of debrief.  A place where the whole family was able to share some of their individual stories and their together story.  God guiding me to share their family together story in a creative way through a story about a family of bears so that we could begin the process of talking through their feelings.

Once upon a time, there was a family of bears, Papa Bear, Mama Bear and four baby cubs.  The bear family ended up leaving their cave in the forest.  The cave was cozy and just right for everyone in the family.  One day, they said their goodbyes to all their animal friends, to deer, rabbit, squirrel, the foxes, and Mr. Owl.  They went to their best fishing hole and said goodbye to their tasty fish and walked to their favorite yummy berry patch and said goodbye while eating some berries.  The bear family traveled in their bear-mobile with all their things to go to a far-off forest, a place they’ve never been, to a new cave, new friends, and new places and foods to eat.  The four baby cubs met some new animals in this new forest – monkey, tapir, and tree frogs but they couldn’t understand what they were saying.  Papa Bear took them to a new fishing hole to fish and the fish didn’t taste the same.  Some fish, like the piranhas because they had to be careful of their sharp teeth.  There were no berries in this forest.  The new cave was smaller, and the cubs had to share spaces.  Eventually, they started making new friends at the animal school, friends called jaguar, toucan, and sloth.  On one day, one of the baby cubs couldn’t play because it wasn’t feeling well.  Mama Bear thought it was something the cub ate and would get better.  But the little cub was not getting any better, so Papa Bear and Mama Bear left the three other baby cubs with a friend while they took the little cub who was sick to the animal hospital to see the animal doctor.  It seemed like a very, very, very long time before the little cub got better and was able to leave the animal hospital.  When Papa Bear and Mama Bear brought the little cub back to the cave all the baby cubs were glad to have little cub back home once again.  The four cubs once again played with their friends in their new forest and new animal school.

How do you think the bear cubs felt when moving and saying goodbye?  How do you think the bear cubs felt in meeting new animals and learning new ways of doing things?  How do you think the bear cubs felt when their sibling was sick and in the hospital?

Earlier this year a friend shared something that I keep chewing and digesting about donkeys.  In Zechariah 9:9, “…your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”  Donkey meaning a beast of burden.  Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a colt of a donkey being our beast of burden as he willingly carries our sin upon himself to death on the cross.  Adding this new thought to what I knew about the donkey representing peace and a colt of a donkey representing royalty it kept coming up again and again, so I did some research to learn more.  Donkeys are not kosher animals.  They do not chew cud, nor do they have cloven hooves.  Thus, the donkey is the ultimate source of impurity.  As a single non-kosher animal, a donkey’s firstborn is considered holy. Yet donkeys cannot be sacrificed nor their firstborn so it must be exchanged for a lamb (Ex. 13:13), since it was not kosher it could not be consecrated.  Another interesting fact is that colts did not make it easy for people to ride them.  So, going back to Jesus Messiah riding on a colt of a donkey – Jesus tamed the colt to be ridden, beast of burden, impurity, firstborn of donkey being exchanged for the Lamb, coming in peace which Jesus is the Prince of Peace, royalty – Jesus the King of kings.  What deep, awe inspiring meaning I now have regarding the triumphal entry leading to the cross.  What burdens do you have to lay on Jesus to carry for you?  I hope this gives you some food for thought to meditate, chew, and digest.

“Blessed are the pure in heart,
    for they will see God
.”

Matthew 5:8

SHANNON’S CORNER The Saga Continues… The trip to Malaysia consisted of a two-day spiritual retreat with the theme of ‘Come Away With Me’ and a six-day conference with about 230 missionaries who serve in some aspect of translating the Scriptures. One of the many people who I met was a missionary who served in Cameroon for many years and now is in a new role. As he was sharing, most his words were very negative and depressive. I encouraged him to sign up for a time of prayer and care. At the end of the retreat, this missionary shared with me that he did have a session and I could see that his whole countenance changed, and he was hopeful. His new word he used to describe where he was now is ‘delightful.’ Our time there was creating a safe space for these missionaries to have a place to share what they are struggling with and to connect with Jesus. One missionary is at a crossroads in her life. Another finds himself in the midst of betrayal. A missionary is in a new role as a caregi...

SHANNON’S CORNER Winter Blast… Brr. It’s cold outside.  Winter is not a favorite season for many people, but I love winter. There is a beauty in the dormant, snow covered, and coldness of winter that embraces and permeates us to the depths of our bones.  It reminds me of the Lord’s love that embraces and permeates us to the depths of our heart and soul.  The snow brings a smile to my face as I delight in the quietness, calming, beautifying, and a slower pace.  Recently, I was talking with someone in Louisiana who was going to be making a snowman and snow angel with his granddaughter.  What playfulness and awe to experience the Lord’s beauty. Community is so important to our lives that even the Lord noticed how alone Adam was in the garden that He made Eve.  It is where you are seen, known, and find belonging.  It has been something I have prayed for, asked you all to be praying for, have sought after in ...

SHANNON’S CORNER Connect. Nurture. Grow. An unexpected and unplanned trip led me to see God’s marvelous and wonderful work at the Assist Pregnancy Center. I learned from the staff that this pregnancy center is unique and different in that the population they serve are women who come already with an 85-90% decision made of aborting their babies. The medical staff who are in the rooms with the women during their ultrasounds share Jesus with them and are compassionate witnesses to each baby as they are seen, valued, and loved. If the mother decides to have the baby the center walks alongside with the mother and family. I had the precious privilege to facilitate a training with all the staff of the pregnancy center to talk about the Wounds from the Work.  Listening to their stories of how the Lord called them to work at this pregnancy center and what the cost has been to them, and their families was sacred ground.  Creating a safe place for them to be seen and heard in thei...
