Feliz Semana Santa

Holy Week...Semana Santa...Easter... Pastor Fernando challenged us, the congregation to spend time in reflecting what Jesus said in this last week in leading to Calgary, what emotions, feelings he must have felt, and what Jesus did.  Let me share with you some of the things I have been reflecting... Domingo de Palma Palm Sunday...Hosanna in the Highest.  Pastor Fernando shared in one message the meaning of the word hosanna which is something that I have been reflecting on since.  The word hosanna originally was a Hebrew word meaning "to save me" a cry for help.  Later, the Greeks changed the meaning to "Savior."  Another piece to consider in putting the triumphal entry into context is that news of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead had spread.  Jesus' entry into Jerusalem with the Jewish people picking up palm branches shouting Hosanna!  Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.  Blessed is the King of Israel were asking Jesus to s...
God's goodness and faithfulness displayed in so many different ways... The third week of March we hosted a couple, Dave and Kathy from Barnabas International.  Barnabas is a mission that serves missionaries in doing member and pastoral care with them.  The week that Dave and Kathy visited they got to know and see our ministries--our vision and mission in rescuing at-risk kids and sharing with them the love of Jesus who can transform their lives.  Dave and Kathy also met, shared, encouraged, listened, and prayed with many of our missionaries serving the the DR.  Our hope is that they will feel led by God to partner with us in serving our missionaries in both member and pastoral care.  Please be praying for God's wisdom and guidance in this area of need. I have had a wonderful opportunity in helping out with our latest sponsorship project that the kids in all 10 of our sites are doing for their sponsors in North America and the UK.  It has been a blessing...

March Newsletter

SHANNON’S CORNER March 2017 Very excited to introduce you to a new KAI family here in the DR.  Eric, Kindsey, Makenna, and Gentry Schneider arrived at the beginning of March.  They are staying with me temporarily until their house at the Ark is move-in ready for them.  It has been great having them and getting to know the whole Schneider family.  Eric will be helping to host teams in Jarabacoa and do maintenance at the Ark as well. Kindsey will be helping out with sponsorship at the Ark and tutoring the kids.  There have been a few snags along the way but God is good and soon the Schneider family will be settling into their new home.  It has been fun showing them around Jarabacoa area, introducing them to many people and helping them with the house, along with playing with Makenna (22 months) and Gentry (2 months). Sewing Class At the Palo Blanco School, our sewing teacher received a very short VISA to go to Costa Rica where her husband li...
